I stopped watching the news a year ago. Okay–that’s kind of a lie because since COVID-19 hit the states, it’s hard not watch now. I want to protect my family. Before this mystery virus hit the airwaves though, I found that starting my day by listening to an uplifting, pumped up podcast totally changed my vibe for the day.
I’ll be honest. Making the transition was a hard one. I completely felt like I HAD to watch The Today Show and the Nashville news each morning or I could fall risk to being an uninformed citizen without a clue of what’s going on in the world today.
When I’d watch it though, everyday I’d hear about the latest murders, mass shootings, sex crimes, and political banter that really didn’t set the best tone for the day. I’d leave home feeling a chronic subdued level of anxiety, anger, or worry about the state of our world today. It totally killed my good vibe in a way that even a venti Carmel Macchioto couldn’t elevate my mood to make up for the blow. Then when word hit about Matt Lauer, that was it for me.
So in the time spent getting ready for work, instead of running the news in the background, I began listening to podcasts. I’m fairly certain there’s at least ten for every subject under the sun. You’ve got podcasts about true crime, news, health, spirituality, entepreneurship, positivity, humor, parenting–you name it!
I’ve seen numerous requests lately for suggestions on social media for podcasts, and it seems like the hype has finally caught on. Here’s my top five podcasts that you’ve gotta hear if you want to uplevel your mind and life.
On being your best self— The School of Greatness — The host, Lewis Howes, is a former NFL player turned Lifestyle entrepreneur and New York Times bestselling author. He is on a mission to help us learn the tricks of the trade of some of the greatest celebrities, athletes, and business tycoons. He’s genuinely a nice, down to earth guy whom you can’t help but like. One of his best interviews was one he did in 2018 with Kobe Bryant. It’s called “The Mamba Mentality,” and showed a soft side of Kobe as he opened up about his family, work ethic, and life.
On finding the meaning of life and digging deep-– Oprah’s Supersoul Conversations. —- So Oprah needs no introduction, obviously. Her podcast is one to help you get “woke” and learn how to connect the dots about life and all its wonder. She interviews thought-leaders, bestselling authors, spiritual gurus, and experts in the spectrum of health and wellness. She teaches you to dig deep and become your best self.
On personal development and business, in a straight-talk kind of way — The Rise Podcast — Rachel Hollis is the well-known author of the hit book, Girl Wash Your Face. She gets real with her listeners from everything from her most embarrassing moments to self-doubt that haunted her for years before she became the business mogul that she is today. Sometimes it’s just her on the podcast. Sometimes she’s interviewing other business greats, but her goal is to leave you with practical nuggets of wisdom that you can implement in your own life.
On learning about the latest must-haves and being a fly on the wall for some juicy convos between famous people — The Skinny Confidential — Lauryn & Michael Bostick are the husband/wife duo that leave no holds barred in their interviews that include tips for business, beauty, wellness, and relationships. They interview other influencers, celebrities, entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and experts to give a well-rounded selection of interviews that often may make you blush. Definitely one you want to listen to with your Airpods in if the kids are around!
On reaching your peak performance in life — The Ed Mylett Show — Ed Mylett is a motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and author. He teaches you how to hustle, dream big, and work hard to accomplish your goals. He has amazing advice on changing your mindset and living a life of purpose.
